Tales of the Great White

Swimming with Whale Sharks has been the biggest thing on my bucket list since I was 15, so this year my partner and I decided to take the plunge and finally travel to the other side of the country. We picked up our camper van from Exmouth Camper Hire and had the most amazing 9 days. We started our holiday by heading straight to Cape Range National Park where we set up camp for the night.

The next day we went on our Whale Shark tour with Eco Ocean Adventures who were an incredible group of people who made the day so relaxed and enjoyable. Swimming with a 7m female Whale Shark is one of those experiences we will never forget. They are the most gentle and beautiful animals. To see it in real life is something that has to be experienced. We were also lucky enough to see a variety of marine life including dolphins, octopus, stingrays, turtles, an amazing array of fish and fluorescent coloured corals. After this, we jumped back in our van and spend the next 5 days exploring the National Park.

Turquoise bay was our absolute favourite snorkelling spot. The water was crystal clear and the whiteness of the sand rivals Whitehaven beach in the Whitsundays. To be able to snorkel straight off the beach and see the amazing array of marine life right on the doorstep was beautiful. I could easily have spent all day snorkelling here.

We also explored Yardie Creek Gorge which had the most beautiful earthly colours. The boat tour up the gorge is definitely worth it and gives you a completely different perspective compared to the walk. We saw 38 very cute black-flanked rock wallabies hopping along the cliff edges as well as a variety of bird life including two Ospreys making their nest. Watching the sunset every night from the beach was another experience we will never forget. Most nights we could see dolphins swimming up and down the shoreline as the sky changed colours.

The beauty of staying in the campervan was that we got to experience these incredible places before all the tours and drivers from Exmouth arrived. When we hiked around Mandu Mandu Gorge we had the entire place to ourselves and all its glory. It is something magical that has to be experienced. After our stay in the National Park we headed down to Coral Bay which was a lovely tourist town where you could once again relax and snorkel straight off the beach.

On our way back to Exmouth we stayed at Bullara Station Stay where having an outdoor shower under the stars is a must. Our Exmouth campervan holiday was the most amazing experience. We cannot wait to come back and do it all again!
